Have you ever thought what can you do with 10 Euros? It may seem uninteresting to spend your time analyzing what could you possibly do with that amount of money, but we will give some ideas on what to do if you are in Lisbon and have 10 Euros in your pockets.

If you start your day with only 10 Euros in your pockets and have not even had breakfast, I invite you to stop by the Rossio square, where the Café Nicola is located, (one of the most historic places of the city, because of its Art Deco architecture from the twenties), and order a coffee with eggs and sausage. From the terrace you can watch the comings and goings of people.

If hunger makes your stomach complain, Casanova Pizzeria is the place to direct the steps. This place is very visited by locals, because of its Italian cuisine at reasonable prices. It is quite hard to find, because it has no clear signs, but worth it. Its modern design bar has long tables, where diners share side by side very well prepared food, especially pizza, which has a very thin and crispy dough, cooked in a classic wood oven brought from Naples, here you will spend between 7 and 10 Euros.

At Cervejaria Trindade, you can taste a wide variety of Portuguese beers and drinks, do not ask for a la carte menu, because it will exceed your budget, but enjoy the architectural beauty of this convent converted into a restaurant.

Come to the Antiga Confeitaria, which since 1837 produces the famous Belem cakes, one of the assets of the Lisbon pastry. The story tells that the place had a sugar refinery that was closed after the Liberal Revolution and all its workers were fired, as well as the monks Jeronimos Monastery just beside it. One of the workers started to sell some candy to survive; they were called Pastéis de Belém. Here you can eat cakes accompanied by a coffee.

From the Santa Justa elevator you will see the best scenery of Lisbon while drinking a coffee on the top floor. Architect Raul Mesnier de Ponsard, who was a pupil of Alexandre Gustave Eiffel, built it in 1901. The project, conceived as an urban solution for connecting Baixa with Chiado with, was declared a national monument in 2002, after concluding that this is one of the few buildings in the Industrial era, which continues to provide public service in Lisbon.

A trip that costs very little money is a walking tour through the Alfama district, there you will be able to how the everyday life in Lisbon is with; clothes hanging, many scales, squares, children playing, bohemian taverns, small shops and friendly neighbors talking lazy days at the doors of their homes. I assure you, you will have fun, eat fried sardines, drink beer and come back with moneys.

It is always a good time to spend some days in apartments in Lisbon and experience the magic of a city with history and traditions.

Perhaps traveling, in its literal sense and as a center piece of recurring metaphors in the history of culture, is found at the root of all literature, including naturally religion. Whether it’s the Bible, which recounts the journeys of countless wandering Jewish people, the traditions of the Egyptian and The Tibetan books of the dead, moving amongst the eerie and ancient Vedic texts (life is a journey that inevitably leads to death no matter what route you take, on the threshold of that trip begins another journey that does not fail to tempt you to take the definitive trip), the no less epic ancient tales of Gilgamesh or Homer’s Odyssey, traveling always occupied a central spot in the fundamentals of the narrative construction of the world.

If difficult to determine precisely where and when a trip begins and ends and seems to be no less difficult to resolve the question of the desirability to go alone or accompanied, Issues of heated controversy form the eternal matter of ancient times arise…

Also literature has documented the age-old debate, offering varied examples, validating their path both ways even in the same voyage,. Thus, despite being 4500 years old, the increasingly modern Sumerian Epic of Gilgamesh, Enkidu presents the convenience of a social life, and therefore it is preferable to travel with someone than to do it alone. Odysseus did not travel alone nor did Don Quixote, though in some passages of their stories they have to go through the process of losing momentarily their companions.

Traveling alone, and remember that life is a journey, in theory opens up a much broader view, which often has virtually endless paths. No need to agree or negotiate the route or activity with anyone and you have the possibility of deploying multi-faceted aspects of your personality (as Pessoa says, “every being is a federation of identities”) that are often alibis or maimed by the expectations of the people we already know and travel with

To travel with means and having to deal with in greater or lesser extent the inevitable friction, negotiation and compromise to stick to the role previously assigned by our friends, it is the inveterate human tendency to mark an identity for each of us in order to relate to your traveling partner, but this apparent limitation at the same time creates an unexpected new field of potential that can be explored in, depth, so rich and fertile, as the often absolute freedom that is equal to the largest of the paralysis, marked by boundaries which are things where the demarcation of the field and the game rules, which create more lines of development of skills are explored

The best idea is to rent apartments in Lisbon an ideal destination for any journey, it is perhaps the city that offers, amid unspeakable beauty, both intimacy spaciousness and horizons, suitable scenarios for the adventurous traveler whether or not we visit it on our own or not, besides being a unique setting to meet someone if we are alone,

Few times do literature and sex produce such an intense text, not only in the sensual theme and its shape but also refective, disturbing, surprising. “The house of the sleeping beauties” by Yasunari Kawabata is an invite to live a completely new and enclosing experience, an insight to the reality of human nature, the eternal duality between Eros and Tanatos, the tension that models our conduct so many times without us realising.

Yasunari Kawabata is one of the most influential Japanese writers in Universal writings. In Latin America for example, his literature has left a deep print on Gabriel García Márquez, the Nobel Prize winner of 1982, who has admitted his admiration for Kawabata, his subjects and questions we can see in “The Plane of Sleeping Beauty” a story included in “Strange Pilgrims” and in his novel “Memories of My Melancholy Whores”, in which the situation of the old man and the maiden repeats itself, just like I mentioned in the previous article.

But let’s focus on Kawabata. “The house of the sleeping beauties” presents us with the story of Eguchi, an old man that goes to a mysterious house on the outskirts of Tokyo, to which only old men from a certain ancestry go to in order to find young virgin maidens. They are sedated and naked on the bed. They can’t touch them or spend two consecutive nights with the same girl, that’s the rule of the house and it’s abided strictly.

That way, Kawabata creates the contrast between decrepitude of the body and the sexual desire of the old man, with the irremovability of the maidens and the neatness of their bodies. It’s not clear if Eguchi enjoys evoking his past flames there, in front of the exciting bodies of the girls, or if he suffers because of his unavoidable reality, of the closeness of death.

“The house of the sleeping beauties” shows sensuality and eroticism, but also a deep thought on what life, sexual impulses and death mean, the correct path towards the good death. It’s a bit baffling at times the cocktail of sensuality, fear, eroticism and loneliness that Eguchi carries with him, the tacit presence of death in every one of his moves. Why does he keep going back to the sleeping beauties house? What perverse satisfaction does he find there? are some of the questions that the reading provides and it’s not easy to find the answers.

“The house of the sleeping beauties” is a fantastic book.

Yasunari Kawabata won the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1968, and has left us books such as “White Bird Cloud”, “The Sound of the Mountain”, “Beauty and Sadness”, and “Snow Country” among others. In 1972, depressed and ill, Yasunari Kawabata committed suicide.

“The house of the sleeping beauties” is a highly recommendable read. Get apartments in Lisbon and submerge yourself in the different atmospheres that Kawabata creates with such intensity. The book can give your trip a perspective, as well as to your sex life.

The list of books which mention Lisbon is a long one. So many of them hope to trap the essence of the city in their pages, and very few achieve it – but even smaller is the number of books which, just like Duchamps’ tiny pharmacy syringe which contained the air of Paris, have actually encapsulated that special poetic, and devastatingly melancholic essence.

Echoing the maxim of Valery that a poem is never finished, it is abandoned, the Book of Disquiet is a work undoubtedly, and unavoidably unfinished. Its cosmology is not dissimilar to those which posit infinite, parallel universes in perpetual expansion, with its equally endless nature.

The book’s authorship has been attributed to book keeper’s assistant Bernardo Soares, of all the many people from the times of Pessoa, after his own confession, which came the closest to fitting the mystery of the book’s content; “whilst the personality is not mine; it is not different to mine, it is a mutilation of it.”

A deeply paradoxical mutilation in any case, as life has trouble breathing without an identity, and so Soares emerges from the pages as a kind of mystic without faith, a dreamer who doesn’t scorn or criticise those paths with no pure reason; a writer who writes his autobiography in prose; an autobiography without events, in the form of a diary full of aphorisms and digressions which cannot hide or embellish the poet which lurks between the lines.

Pessoa himself, in the wistful, sad, enigmatic prologue to the book, presents to us the moment of meeting him. Both had been distracted, and curious about a fight which had taken place on the street, in a food house which looked like a restaurant, in a city with no train, which they both frequented.

Around 30 years old, his pale, pallid face gave off an air of vague suffering – a suffering which had over time crystallised to the point of indifference. Soares was a solitary figure who barely went to class, or joined any groups or clubs, or established any meaningful bonds with anybody. With the exception, that is, of Pessoa himself, to whom he only approached in order to leave him the very book which we see today, fifty years after his death.

Perhaps that’s why it is like we are listening to a voice from the grave when we lose ourselves in the fascinating, beautiful pages, as he talks to us, with hypnotic melancholy; with a slow, beating rhythm, of the rain, of the loss of faith, of the gods, of ancient cults, of the musical quality of cars, of the world of tobacco, of the pain of happiness, of the flight path of the seagulls, the resting places of the soul, of tiredness, exhaustion, of the notion of life as a Whole which weighs upon the shoulders of thought…

Until July 3, 2011 the Centro de Arte Moderno in Lisbon Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation presents the installation Nine from the conceptual Korean artist Koo Jeong who exhibits her work in Portugal for the first time exhibiting this work exclusively for the gallery.

Koo Jeong was born in Seoul, Korea in 1967. Since 1990 she has worked in areas that seek to provoke through spatial perception and sensations that confront that visible and invisible. Her intimate work is not easy to understand, for it is a mixture of sculpture, design and poetic fiction that develops in clean spaces

Perhaps many are asking why herwork is titled Nine (Nine), if it only consists of five sculptural pieces? That is because she affirms that she adds as a constitutive element of her creation: Dimensions, among them we can find llinear, two-dimensional and two-dimensional integrating poetic dimensions to the third and fourth dimension, this is like sharing a science fiction game. If we add the four-dimensional concepts, plus the five sculptural pieces, we have nine or Nine.

The five sculptural pieces have a slick architecture form that defies spatial perceptions such as walls, stairs and contrasting colors on a very light white background that add interiorism that gives the impression of color by the reverberation of the contour. Each pieces made in situ and its temporality is short for they will be disappearing with exposure

Koo plays with concepts through this work: Perfection, clean lines and colors contrast with the limited time her artwork will be exposed, not to mention the ephemeral existence of nature, where perfection can last a few seconds or an eternity.

Boxes and well constructed spaces seem to be a mockery to the viewer, because they give the appearance of places of hospitality and shelter, clearly inviting you to explore, but you cannot for its impossible to enter

Koo’s work is not very known to the public, despite that she has participated in the Venice Biennale since 2001. She has also been a key artist in Moscow, Sydney and allmajor galleries in Europe and the United States.

One of her most famous works is in the Congress of the constellation where she distributes a of a series of false diamonds on the lawn, marking the territory and leaving a fragile trail, like as if an enchanted forest. A whole set of textures, color and transparency in the crystals floating in a dreamlike appearance.

Koo plays with colors, smells and lights. All these things are valid to chase the conceptual dimension game of existence which we have in our unconscious.

To understand this complex and intimate conceptual work you only have to be resting a few days in apartments in Lisbon and go top the Modern Art Centre of the Calouste Gulbenkian. Then you can entertain your friends talking about emotions and feelings that the exhibit awakened in you.

Lisbon is also joining the LGBT Pride celebrations with a parade in the city that will take place on the 18th of June. This year’s parade organizing committee consists of over 21 organizations, thus LGBT activism in Portugal continues to grow. It is noteworthy that in January 2010, thanks to the aid of this movement, marriage between persons of the same sex was accepted in Portugal. Without a doubt a triumph in the fight for the rights of the gay and lesbian community.

While LGBT pride march in Lisbon had an approximate attendance of 3000 to 4000 participants, a quite small number compared to cities like Rio de Janeiro or New York, it is a great achievement in activism for LGBT rights in Portugal. Among the organizations engaged in the fight for these rights is the Kaleidoscope collective, a group of activists that aims to support people and the LGBT cause by informing the public about sexual orientation issues and gender identity

Similarly, Portugal Pride page has a fairly large archive with information about events form the past years, among them we can find Porto Pride with more than 10 editions as well as other activities related to LGBT rights in Lisbon as in Porto and Coimbra. Visit this website for more info: http://www.portugalpride.org/

If during your stay in Lisbon you are looking to meet someone just for fun or who knows what in the gay environment, you must go the Barrio Alto. It is right there, around the Plaza del Príncipe Real where you can find a variety of gay venues. Another place to find cute boys and girls is the Rua de Mar Marçal. Near Plaça Luis Camoes which is super gay friendly and where you can walk around and mingle in a great atmosphere. The parade begins on June the 18 at precisely the Prince Plaza Real, so you know where to start your route. It is also recommended to visit the Colombo shopping center, where many of the LGBT movement activists meet to search the latest international fashions. Get your credit card ready because you’ll see the best of many things, guaranteed.

While all countercultural movements build on principles that go against the neoliberal economic and social system, so to speak, with all the decayed morals and principles this conveys, the LGBT movement also has a very marked consumer market represented by products ranging as mentioned before, from fashion to entertainment.. Being a consumer is not meant to be consumed, we are all in the arena of free trade.

And due to all of this, there is nothing better than getting Lisbon accommodation and showing up at the day of the march, a highly recommended activity if your into activism and human rights, as well as having a great time, celebrating difference and sexual diversity.

Who are you?

Clitoris is a latin word meaning key – Kleitoris in the Greek, which also has a verb (kleitoriázō), which means “to touch (ones) clitoris in order to bring pleasure.” And apparently that’s where my name comes from – though some also say the word is of Indian origin, as Aristotle said that in the Indus river there is a beautiful, dark stone called “clitoris.” If I could give myself a more poetic name, it would be “the jewel of the vulva.” What do you think? (laughs).

What are you like and what do you do?

I am the only organ whose function is purely for pleasure. And highly sensitive too – I have more nerve endings than any organ in the body (more than 8000), making me more sensitive than the tongue, and the fingertips. Some women prefer to touch me themselves, others prefer somebody else to do it. And to some, the area is just too sensitive, so they touch around it.

Are you as small as you look?

Well no. I have gland of erectile tissue, which is partly visible – but that’s not all. I lengthen internally too, towards the reproductive system, connecting to the uterus and vagina. You could liken my orgasms to an earthquake of the entire feminine reproductive area – that’s why they sometimes cause female ejaculation…

What does the moment of orgasm feel like?

No two orgasms are the same – and no two women ever feel the same sensation. Like with men, the type of orgasm depends on the stimulation – but they are all miracles! (laughs). If we were to metaphorically compare women’s orgasms to men’s, the first is continuous, reaches climax, and holds, whilst the second is fast and liberating (makes sense – all that ejaculation, more laughs).

What would you say to women who have still never seen you?

To be able to see me, you have to open the two interior labia. My sole reason for living is pleasure – it’s good to be able to feel me, but ideally, you should see me too. I’m not a narcissist or anything, it’s just better to get to know me visually! If you’re having trouble, use a mirror – or take a photo (laughs). Sadly, there are some societies and cultures which ban a woman’s sexual pleasure, so to many women I am a perfect stranger.

When one considers buying some sort of sexual device has in front of him/her a vast array of possibilities. It’s all set up and there are many variants and it is therefore really hard to find exactly what you want. And so happens with the harness. There are countless types of materials and with a thousand different functions. Thus, the most important thing is to have ideas clear and to know what we want to meet and how.

The world of harness is infinite but there are some which succeed over others. We are talking about those made with leather, and these are the ones that carry the aggressive look that one associates with the harness. Yes, it is true that we usually buy those who practice bondage or sadomasochism but also find a small target among those “explorers” who are eager for new experiences.

But for everyone in general, there is a harness that is delighting practitioners. This is the whole body model, the classical body, which makes any posture easier and helps to easily enter an erotic fantasy. And not only that, almost all leather harnesses have the ability to adjust the measures as each strip has a buckle. So say goodbye to the surprises, to baggy harnesses that leave much to be desired and remove all emotion to the games. No doubt these are the ones we recommend but as I have said, whatever floats your boat.

And is there a better place to play than in a magical city? Lisbon makes you dream just enough to have fun with any type of attachment, yes, it is important that everyone who is not wishing to enjoy sex 100% are left unopened and in good hands before leading the Portuguese capital.

One of these details is the accommodation, so if you do not want problems, the simplest thing is to rent one of the apartments in Lisbon and forget about unnecessary problems.

Orgasm is a different world in every person, and we can find everyone, from the person who reaches the climax quietly to the one who explodes, trembles like and earthquake and destroys the room … or at least the bed.

But everyone can agree that we always like to know that the other party has enjoyed the fun, and that the pleasure has been mutual. In fact, if the other party comes quietly, there’s always a shadow of suspicion, did the enjoy it? Did they come for real? Many men are terrified to find out the truth.

The fact is that often men get carried away when they are burning in the throes of passion, and move to quickly or skip the foreplay and rush into a quick orgasm. In fact, many men believe that this kind of “violence” gets women more turned on, especially since they might make more noise if they are being prodded porno style. Noise does not always equal pleasure fellows; just think how you would squeal if you were being sodomized. The main secret of enjoyable sex is communication, and actively studying and indulging your partner’s preferred practices and techniques. Even if it’s a one night stand, don’t you want your partner to enjoy themself?

On thing that can help you to have more enjoyable sexual relations with your partner is to better understand the female anatomy. You should familiarize yourself with the g-spot, clitoris and the vagina in general. Keep in mind that a soft touch goes along way, and ask your lady how and where she likes to be touched, and how. Pay attention to her, and make her feel special. Don’t become too enthralled by your-newfound sexual knowledge that you sound like a crusty old science teacher: you might have been reading up on the G-spot, but that doesn’t mean that you need to get the sexy times started By saying: “Okay sweetie, tonight we are going to find your g-spot. Get your pencils ready.” It’s just not sexy!

If you are into metal, and especially the symphonic metal you absolutely can’t miss the Apocalyptica concert in Lisbon. Apocalyptica is one of the most powerful symphonic metal bands taking the stage today. These guys are Finnish cellists who studied in the Music Academy of Helsinki, who were motivated by their early love of metal and in particular Metallica, to start the group in 1993. Here’s a little bit of history before we get on to talking about the tour and the concert to be given in Lisbon.

In the beginning, the string quartet played in bars and at parties with friends until a representative of the label Zen Garden heard them in a famous Heavy Metal club in Helsinki and offered to record their first album. The release was titled ” Plays Metallica by Four Cellos ” because the disc was composed of covers of their favourite band, “Metallica.” This album sold over a million copies worldwide. After this first work, their path has been full of successes, further reinforced by discs of their own compositions, DVDs, tours and collaborations with artists like Rammstein or Nina Hagen.

The “7th symphony tour” brings the band to Lisbon this October 13th. It is simply unforgettable as the band released their last album (who gives name to the tour), on August 23, meaning it will be the first time you can hear these songs live and also listen to the hits from their seven albums. The concert will be held in the auditorium of the beautiful city of Lisbon and prices vary by according to the location of the seats. They might not be cheap but they are worth every euro. Do not wait second longer, rent apartments in Lisbon and don’t miss this excellent concert in one of the most poetic cities in Europe.
For more information about the concert, see:
http://www.worldticketshop.es/conciertos/entradas_apocalyptica/85638_apocalyptica_lisboa
